The Kangaroo Pouch: A story about surrogacy for young children is the leading children’s book worldwide, for explaining the idea of being a surrogate for another family.

Available since January 2007, the book underwent a “refresh” in 2017 with a new cover, some new content, and remastered artwork. It is a fully illustrated 28-page book for children ages 2-8.

  • It was originally hand-drawn with stick figures in 2004 by the author and used to explain to her own children (4 and 8 at the time) that she was going to be a surrogate for their aunt and uncle (gave birth to twins).
  • The book was rewritten for the general population, professionally illustrated, and published in January 2007.
  • The Bouncing-Hopsalots, the childless couple in the story, are gender-neutral.
